Hauling rolls from the shelf to the machine and back – that’s a thing of the past thanks to the automated storage systems developed by NEPATA. A new solution features a vertical robot for small to medium-sized roll storage facilities. Fetch and return times do not directly add value. Furthermore, storing vinyl rolls on shelving takes up a lot of space. Our automated storage system for roll media, featuring a vertical robot, provides a solution to this problem. The vertical solution is designed for roll storage with a total capacity of approximately 400 to 1,250 rolls. Here’s how it works:
The roller storage system with a vertical robot is based on a steel racking structure with horizontal pins, on which the rollers are suspended in a very compact arrangement.
An automatic, vertical 3-axis robot moves sequentially to the reels required for each job. Its specially designed tray gripper gently lifts the reel from below and then removes it from the mandrel.
The gripper then places the roll in an empty transfer station. As soon as a roll is ready, the machine operator can manually open the transfer station, just like a drawer, and remove the roll.
To ensure an optimal workflow, the machines are ideally positioned directly next to the transfer stations at the rear of the storage system. Used rolls are stored accordingly. The software supplied can be fully integrated into the tried-and-tested NEPATA control software, ConvertPlus. The storage system is customised in each case in terms of dimensions (floor space, height), total capacity and the number of transfer stations. I’d like to find out more
