FILM LOGISTICS: Optimisation strategies – #3 Dealing with cores

Today I have a suggestion for you – one that may seem a little unusual at first glance – regarding the handling of cardboard cores. Stock only long cores It is common to keep various core widths in stock to match the respective film widths: 122 cm, 61 cm and others. Food for thought: how about working with just one standardised core width, e.g. 122 cm or 126 cm? During the wrapping process, you simply use the slitting head to sever the core at the point where the current vinyl film ends, e.g. at 61 cm. The remaining section of the core can be used straight away for the next job where that width is required. This means you have to walk around less often and stock fewer different types of cores – and you can order larger quantities of your standard core, thereby reducing costs.
